Description
Canadian version of 2002 exist open consists of one special bonus track, 'Charmed Life' & the U.S. bonus track, 'Just The Way You Are' (Studio Version/Billy Joel cover). The first-ever exist concert recording from Grammy winning vocalist/pianist Diana Krall, recorded at the Paris Olympia Theatre winter 2002. Here finally, captured in amazing audio excellence, is an album showcasing the magic of Krall's concert performances. Krall & her band - perform some of the tunes from Krall's studio recordings, such as 'East of the Sun (West of the Moon)' & 'Devil May Care'. Joined by exclusive guests John Pisano (acoustic guitar) & Paulinho DaCosta (percussion) for several tracks, counting the Gershwin's 'S'wonderful'. The Orchestre Symphonique European, conducted by Alan Broadbent together with exclusive guest conductor Claus Ogerman, is featured on the upbeat 'Let's Fall in Love' & a haunting interpretation of 'I've Got You
Recorded at the historic Olympia Theatre in Paris in November 2001, this is Diana Krall's first exist album. Backed by her quicksilver combo of bassist John Clayton, drummer Jeff Hamilton, and guitarist John Pisano (on some tracks), Krall's jazz heritage comes throughout loud and clear on this program of standards, ballads, and bossa novas. On Peggy Lee's "I Love Being Here together with You," Bob Dorough's "Devil May Care," and Frank Sinatra's "Fly Me to the Moon," Krall's snappy, postbop piano playing shows off her debt to Nat "King" Cole and Jimmy Rowles. Her cool contralto vocals are illuminated by the Orchestre Symphonique Europeen, under the direction of Alan Broadbent, as well as the London Symphony Orchestra, led by conductor Claus Ogerman. Krall's deep get on Joni Mitchell's "A Case of You" is a excellent choice for an encore, and the CD concludes together with Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are" (a studio track from a film called
The Guru
), together with tenor saxophonist Michael Brecker and bassist Christian McBride. This collection only hints at what Diana Krall has to propose in the future.

Diana Krall is aces all the way
2010-07-26
By New England Pat (Virginia, USA)
A nice live recording by Diana Krall, the great jazz vocalist and pianist whose sultry, sexy voice makes any song she sings a special occasion. Diana is just wonderful as she delivers her standards such as "Let's Fall in Love" and "'S Wonderful" to an enthusiastic audience, backed by an all-star band. The encore of "A Case of You" is perhaps the highlight of the recording, although the studio version of "Just the Way You Are" could have been omitted. No matter, this is a great session that features one of jazz' best talents today.
Absolutely brilliant

I bought this CD on the recommendation of a friend and also after watching clips of her performance on YouTube. After listening to it, I gotta say it's brilliant. The recording is fantastic as is her performance. Love her arrangement of Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are" as well. I have went on to purchase the DVD of this concert as well.
Love "Live in Paris"
2010-02-05
By K. Jones (Chicago IL USA)
I recently downloaded several songs from this album. A truly fabulous collection -- possibly her best. Her voice is in great form, the songs move right along, her band is excellent. Krall herself is not only a fine singer, but a fine jazz pianist as well. Even the production work is very good -- no random crowd sounds which are often heard on live recordings. I play this music while I work, work out at the gym, walk outdoors, cook dinner. The perfect antidote to a gray winter's day in Chicago.
Great Performance

By David A. Garcia (Albuquerque, NM)
This album is worth getting even if you already have different versions of the same songs by Ms. Krall. Exceptionally good quality sound for a live album. As far as I know, this is the only album featuring Ms. Krall singing "A Case of You". Her version of that is extraordinary.

I forget where I discovered this amazing performer...but I am so glad I did! It is fun to listen to her own unique interpretation of some old jazzy standards. And her voice reminds me of being in a night club in the 40's (at least from what I can tell from the movies!)
